Il parle de la déambulation du photographe, de son voyeurisme professionnel, de ces bandes photographiques témoins de l'ambiguïté du photographe et qui parfois, révèlent une bonne photographie : celle que l'on peut regarder sans honte. San Clemente : Un bouleversant voyage au cœur de la folie. San Clemente, un hôpital psychiatrique situé dans une île au large de la place Saint-Marc. Les malades y mènent une vie libre. Ils participent même au carnaval de Venise. Raymond Depardon y a effectué plusieurs reportages photos. En 1980, il y retourne avec Sophie Ristelhueber et du matériel de tournage. L'hôpital est menacé de fermeture... Ce film est une immersion bouleversante et inoubliable dans l'univers psychiatrique.
